New Credit Card Service Fees Coming Soon

Coming soon, California Child Support Services will align with common state agency practice and begin charging service fees on child support payment transactions made with credit or debit cards through the State Disbursement Unit. All credit and debit card transactions for child support made online or over the phone will include a 1.9% service fee paid to the card processor.

Those who would like to make a payment using a credit or debit card have other options besides online and over the phone, but third-party service fees are higher: payers can use payment kiosks located in regional and county child support offices, as well as PayPal. A comparison of fees across all card payment methods is below. For more information, visit our Make & Receive Payments page.

Online and Over the Phone:

  • Credit and debit cards processed online will charge a 1.9% service fee on every transaction.

At Regional and County Child Support Offices:

  • Credit and debit cards processed through an automated payment kiosk have a 2.2% service fee.
