Each year, California Child Support Services holds a Holiday Gift Drive to benefit local children in need. As in 2019, this year’s partner was the Sacramento Center for Fathers and Families. The vision of this non-profit organization is to provide enrichment programs and wrap-around child-focused services to single fathers and their families. Due to the recent COVID-19 surge in the capital region and the emergency telework order for State agencies, the gift drive became a challenge to minimize personal contact as gifts were collected. This year the campaign team transformed the “shop and drop” gift drive into a contact-free effort by using Amazon Wish Lists! The Center for Fathers and Families created an Amazon Wish List with the gifts requested by the children in their program, and the Child Support Services team directed interested employees to a sign up page where staff could fulfill the wish of the child of their choosing.
The campaign team “elves” were hard at work right from the campaign kickoff – nearly 30% of the wishes were fulfilled within 20 minutes of the first notification email. In less than one week, all the children’s wishes had been granted and packages were on their way, but staff didn’t stop there. The tremendous employee response allowed additional options, such as gift cards, to be added to brighten the holiday for the fathers in the program as well. Thanks to the generosity of California Child Support Services staff, hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards were donated to the Center for Fathers and Families in addition to the gifts for the kids.
The giving spirit is definitely alive and well at California Child Support Services. Happy Holidays!
