With more than two decades of child support service, Darrell McGowan has accepted a new leadership role with the County of Monterey. He was recently appointed as the Director of the Monterey County Department of Child Support Services.
McGowan had been serving as the county’s Interim Director since former Director Jody Holtzworth retired in December. The Monterey County Board of Supervisors finalized McGowan’s appointment on March 10, 2020.
McGowan’s child support service spans 23 years in Monterey County, beginning as a Child Support Officer and then as a Compliance Specialist and certified trainer. He was later promoted to Management Analyst, with responsibilities such as serving as the Ombudsman for the Department, developing the Business Plan, and establishing goals for the County Managing for Results program.
In April 2017, he was named Deputy Director and was responsible for overseeing the Information Technology functions, Public Information and Outreach, Accounting, Case Management Operations, and facilities management. McGowan served as Deputy Director for two years before his promotion to Interim Director and subsequent appointment to Director.
As Monterey County welcomes their new Director, California Child Support Services is also recognizing the retirements of two influential figures, DeAnne Sandoval and Anne Drumm. Sandoval was the Statewide Training Branch Chief, while Drumm was the Assistant Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs.
Both retired on April 17.
